The inspiring TEDx events are set to bring together speakers, academics, entrepreneurs and creatives for discussions centred on transformation, connection and innovation.
In Lagos, the Lagos Cultural Centre will host TEDxPraça Gil Eanes on May 16, with this year’s theme focusing on Metamorphosis: The Beauty of Change.
The event will examine how periods of instability and transition often pave the way for progress — from scientific discovery and technological innovation to cultural evolution and social transformation.
Organisers add: “At TEDxPraça Gil Eanes 2026, we explore serious forms of change, past, present, and future, through research, evidence, lived experience, and new perspectives on how transformation really happens.”
Specialists from areas including leadership, branding, marketing, science and the creative industries are expected to contribute throughout the day-long programme.
Later in the month, Lisbon will host TEDxMarvila on May 24 at Pátio da Galé, one of the capital’s most historic and prestigious venues.
This year’s theme, What is Love?, will explore the concept far beyond romance, examining how human connection shapes society, wellbeing and resilience.
As the organisers explain: “From neuroscience to philosophy, we’re beginning to understand love not as something abstract, but as something deeply structural. A biological need for connection. A social glue that holds societies together. A driver of empathy, cooperation, and resilience in times of change.”

Adding a nostalgic touch to the event, Haddaway — best known for his 1993 hit What is Love? — will join the line-up of speakers and panellists.
He will appear alongside CEOs, investors, entrepreneurs, academics and marketing professionals to discuss the topic from a range of perspectives.
The TEDx gatherings are among several major international events reinforcing Portugal’s position as a leading destination for business, technology, culture and sport.
In November, Lisbon will once again welcome thousands of delegates for Web Summit 2026, where internationally renowned technology leaders will take to the stage.
Excitement is also building around the anticipated return of Formula 1 next year at the Autódromo Internacional do Algarve, better known as the Portimão Circuit.
Explains Paul Stannard, founder and chairman of Portugal Pathways and the Portugal Investment Owners Club: “The TEDx events are always vibrant, engaging events and these in Lisbon and Lagos promise some thought-provoking discussion and excellent networking opportunities.
“Every year, we see Portugal adding more international-quality events to its calendar. It demonstrates the calibre of the audience they attract.
“Whether it’s discussions on how to develop our cities or communities or the sheer excitement of F1, Portugal is proving, yet again, to be the place to be.”
