Securing residency and business opportunities in Portugal

Felipe, originally from the U.S., had long been drawn to the idea of a new life in Europe, and Portugal.

With its climate, culture, and growing international community, Portugal stood out as the natural fit for Felipe. He turned to Portugal Pathways for guidance on making the move a reality.

Portugal Pathways introduced Felipe to immigration specialists who guided him through the D7 visa application process, helping him understand the residency route best suited to his circumstances.

Once his visa pathway was underway, Felipe was also introduced to tax professionals who could assess how his income, including rental income from properties outside Portugal, might be treated under Portuguese tax residency rules, and what structuring options were available to him at the time under the prevailing tax framework.

With his residency route in progress, Felipe began exploring what day-to-day life in Portugal might look like, including the practical benefits of Schengen Area travel, which gives him the freedom to visit neighbouring European countries without needing separate visas for short stays.

Felipe was also keen to build a social and professional life in his new home, particularly in Quinta do Lago, a vibrant, property-driven expat community in the Algarve's Golden Triangle. Portugal Pathways supported him with introductions into this community, helping him connect with like-minded residents, local events, and networking opportunities.

Felipe also wanted to immerse himself in Portuguese culture and, in time, explore opportunities to invest in local real estate. However, like many newcomers, he found the broader process of integrating into a new society more complex than anticipated.

Portugal Pathways helped bridge that gap, coordinating the right introductions and support at each stage, so that Felipe's transition wasn't just about relocating on paper, but about building a genuinely fulfilling life in the Algarve, with the right people, community, and opportunities around him.
